Gastown is located at the northeast end of Downtown Vancouver, adjacent to the Downtown Eastside. It is considered to be a national historic site. The historical boundaries according to the 1870 town site survey comprise the CPR tracks and Water Street, that initially were the waterfront, Hastings Street, Cambie Street and Columbia Street. At that time the correct name and postal address was Granville, B.I. or Burrard Inlet. The current boundary does not consist of most of Hastings Street, except for the Dominion and Woodward's Buildings. The boundary extends east past Columbia Street to the laneway running parallel to the west side of Main Street.
